Estudios ecológicos en el Golfo San Jorge y adyacencias (Atlántico sudoccidental). Distribución, abundancia y variación estacional del fitoplancton en relación a factores físico-químicos y la dinámica hidrológica. OceanDocs
Akselman, R..
This study was based on four seasonal cruises during 1984 and 1985. It revealed a thermo-haline frontal system formed by the advection of the Coastal Water mass flowing in two branches, one running towards the coast and the other mid-shelf directed. The thermocline developed between late spring and autumn results in a low inorganic nutrient concentration in the upper layer. Nonetheless in winter, a vertical homogeneity and high nutrient concentration were observed. Phytoplankton development presented a typical temperate-seas annual cycle. In winter, reduced populations were dominated by diatoms. The highest biomass concentration in the cycle coincided with the spring blooming, to which Thalassio sira anguste-lineata,Alexandrium tamarense, Heterocapsa...

Eutrophication in a tropical pond: Understanding the bacterioplankton and phytoplankton dynamics during a vibriosis outbreak using flow cytometric analyses ArchiMer
Lucas, Ronan; Courties, C.; Herbland, Alain; Goulletquer, Philippe; Marteau, Anne-laure; Lemonnier, Hugues.
In tropical shrimp ponds, the increasing of feed input, concomitantly with the stocking shrimp biomass, induces an eutrophication of the ecosystem. Although difficult to maintain, its stability is required to guarantee the success of the culture. A 110-day period of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton stock and dynamics in an earthen pond (1.2 ha area, 1 m depth) was monitored using flow cytometry to provide baseline information on community characteristics and ecosystem instability. Seven autotrophic cell types were identified over the whole sampling period. Prokaryotic cells included Synechococcus sp., a group named UNK which presented an atypical new flow cytometric signature and picoeukaryotes (PEUK). Nanophytoplankton cells were represented by 4...

Evaluation of FluoroProbe® performance for the phytoplankton-based assessment of the ecological status of Mediterranean coastal lagoons ArchiMer
Garrido, Marie; Cecchi, Philippe; Malet, Nathalie; Bec, Beatrice; Torre, Franck; Pasqualini, Vanina.
The European Water Framework Directive and several other legislations worldwide have selected phytoplankton for monitoring the ecological status of surface waters. This assessment is a complicated task in coastal lagoons due to their intrinsic variability, prompting moves to use real-time measurements. Here, we tested the ability of the submersible spectrofluorometer FluoroProbe® to accurately estimate the phytoplankton biomass and to efficiently discriminate spectral groups in Mediterranean coastal lagoons, by using sub-surface water samples (n = 107) collected at Biguglia lagoon (Corsica) in different environmental situations (salinity and trophic state) from March 2012 to December 2014. We compared the estimates of biomass and phytoplankton group...

Evaluation of the partial renewal of in situ phytoplankton microcosms and application to the impact assessment of bentazon and dimethenamid ArchiMer
De La Broise, Denis; Stachowski-haberkorn, Sabine.
Microcosms, each consisting of 2 L natural surface seawater maintained in 2.3-L glass bottles, were immersed at a depth of 6 metres. The renewal of ten percent of microcosm volumes was carried out every other day. Phytoplankton-containing seawater was used for renewal (previously filtered through 25-, 50- or 200-μm cut-off). Phytoplankton community pigment analysis (by HPLC) and flow cytometry analysis were performed. After 13 days, data exhibited phytoplankton characteristics in microcosms in the same range as that of the natural surrounding sea water over the same period. Furthermore, in these microcosms, a negative correlation was observed between the filtration cut-off used for renewal water, and the eukaryote cell count. Herbicides were tested as...

eventualité d’un transfert du phytoplancton toxique des milieux portuaires du golfe de gabè vers les zones de production de coquillage OceanDocs
Hamza, A.; Dammak-Zouari, H.; Bouain, A..

Jacques, G.; De Billy, G..
One approach to the problem of aquaculture consists in a simple acceleration of natural processes in extended areas of salt or brackish water. From this point of view, the authors have been interested in the effect of moderate fertilization on natural communities . A first series of experiments (8) was made in an external tank of 3000 liters. After fertilization, the development of flowering diatoms was obtained each time. The time of latency, the level of production reached, the composition of the final communities is to some extent variable, but bacterial development may be neglected. In contrast to earlier results, obtained in small volumes of water, these experiments have always led to simplified communities mostly dominated by the diatom...

Four marine phytoplanctonic cultures from natural inoculum of Nannodito sp. have been submitted to different fertilizers in identical light and temperature conditions. The composition of enrichments has been studied to introduce Nitrogen as comparative factor. One tank without nutrients and three enriched cultures, the first only with sodium nitrate, the second with "Conway medium" and the last in which nutrients were provided by convenient dilution of "foam", have been followed for physical, chemical, biological parameters during three months. Temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, optical density, particulate matters, Organic Carbon, Nitrogen, Phos phorus, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium, metal traces and biological parameters were analysed...

Evolution du phytoplancton dans des bassins de culture ArchiMer
Nival, Paul; Malara, G.; Lelong, P.; Cellario, C.; Charra, R.; Riva, A..
The concentration of chlorophyll a in large out-door continuous culture was analysed in spring 1977 and 1978, and autumn - winter 1977-1978. The growth of marine phytoplankton in springsl977 is analysed with more details and shows three phases : - first, the diatoms (especially Skeletonema costatum) grow rapidely (27/4 to 3/5). The growth rate estimated by the chlorophyll measurements is 1.36 day“1. - then (3/5 to.13/5) the concentration of chlorophyll remains more or less constant (23.611.2 mg/m3) as well as the concentration of particulate organic matter. - at the end of the experiment (13/5 to 20/5) the concentration of chlorophyll falls as soon as Skeletonema costatum decrease in number. The declin of the phytoplankton biomass is followed by an...

Explaining dinophysis cf. acuminata abundance in Antifer (Normandy, France) using dynamic linear regression ArchiMer
Soudant, Dominique; Beliaeff, Benoit; Thomas, G.
Classical regression analysis can be used to model time series. However, the assumption that model parameters are constant over time is not necessarily adapted to the data. In phytoplankton ecology, the relevance of time-varying parameter values has been shown using a dynamic linear regression model (DLRM). DLRMs, belonging to the class of Bayesian dynamic models, assume the existence of a non-observable time series of model parameters, which are estimated on-line, i.e. after each observation. The aim of this paper was to show how DLRM results could be used to explain variation of a time series of phytoplankton abundance. We applied DLRM to daily concentrations of Dinophysis cf. acuminata, determined in Antifer harbour (French coast of the English...

Feeding and energetics of the great scallop, Pecten maximus, through a DEB model ArchiMer
Lavaud, Romain; Flye-sainte-marie, Jonathan; Jean, Fred; Emmery, Antoine; Strand, Oivind; Kooijman, Sebastiaan A. L. M..
We developed a full life-cycle bioenergetic model for the great scallop P. maximusrelying on the concepts of the Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) theory. The covariation method was implemented to estimate the parameters of a standard DEB model. Such models are able to predict various metabolic processes from a food availability marker and temperature in the environment. However, suspension-feeders are likely to feed on various trophic sources, from microalgae cells to detritus. They are also able to sort and select food particles very efficiently, depending on their size, energetic value or quality. The present model includes a mechanistic description of the feeding processes, based on Kooijman’s Synthesizing Unit principle which allow to deal with several food...

FIRST CHARACTERIZATION OF THE PLANKTONIC COMMUNITY IN THE NORTHERN SECTOR OF THE JOINT REGIME AREA JAMAICA - COLOMBIA Boletín de Investigaciones
Gutiérrez-Salcedo,José Manuel; Cabarcas-Mier,Angélica; Suárez-Mozo,Nancy.
The Joint Regime Area Jamaica-Colombia (JRA) is a sector of economic importance for Colombia but its biodiversity is unknown due to the difficult access. Therefore, the Institute of Marine and Coastal Research - Invemar in agreement with the National Hydrocarbon Agency - ANH, made an expedition in 2011 to obtain a first approximation to the diversity of the JRA. Within the groups studied was the plankton, which was collected around landforms at 21 sampling stations in the northern sector of the JRA, with special plankton nets of 20 µm pore size mesh for phytoplankton and 200 µm for zooplankton. Organisms were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic category and an ecological analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, univariate and...
